Starry night is not just any painting. It is much more than that. It is a symbol of hope. A surviving testimony that hope breaches all nooks and crevices of the world. Even the dark and desolate places such as the asylum where Vincent painted it. Where others may have seen gloom and despair Vincent chose to see a starry sky through an iron barred window.

The painting also serves the purpose to tell us the nature of mental illnesses. Even as the delusions ravaged his mind, Vincent was able to produce a whopping number of paintings that embellish the walls of museums today. The world today does not remember Vincent for schizophrenia or for a syndrome named after him. But for his beautiful starry night seen from his dark and desolate room.
